August Program: The St. John's Bible

August Meeting Program: Film — Illuminating the The St. John's Bible

WHEN: Monday, August 9
TIME: Social time starts at 7:00 with meeting commencing at 7:30
WHERE: Trinity United Methodist Church

For the first time in 500 years, a hand-written, illuminated bible has been commissioned, and the project has garnered international attention for its commissioners and executioner — St. John's University in Minnesota and world-reknowned calligrapher Donald Jackson.

The St. John's Bible
Jackson, once scribe to the Queen of England, leads a team of supremely accomplished scribes in creating the St. John's Bible. They work using traditional techniques in a scriptorium in Wales, receiving guidance from the team of monks, scholars and biblical interpreters in Collegeville, Minnesota.

The BBC documentary, "The St. John's Bible", looks at this formidable undertaking in all its technical and historical detail. The project, which eventually will comprise seven volumes and about 1,150 pages, is at the halfway point, and once finished will be a pilgrimage destination for years to come.
