OUR NEXT MEETING:
A Year in Calligraphy:
Carolingian

Monday, June 8, 7:00pm

For our June meeting we will look at Carolingian. Michael Smith will demonstrate this beautiful and historic script. Judy Cox will tell us what every calligrapher needs to know about rulers and lines.

For those of you who missed the May meeting, we have some extra copies of both the Italic Variations and the Layout---be sure to pick them up!

Bring your toolbox, you never know when we will get a chance to practice letters for ourselves, and if you have any interesting rulers or line drawing aids, bring them as well.

As always please bring your artwork for the sharing table and your goodies > for the munchie table.

2009 Graceful Envelope Contest:"Address the Environment"

Bring any evidence of your entry into this year's competition to the table at the next meeting.

The Internet is your Friend: Online Instructional Resources for Calligraphers

Technojoy for calligraphers is no further away than your browser. If you aren't already a keen consumer of the myriad resources for calligraphy available on the internet, I'll highlight a few you may not be aware of.

YouTube: In addition to footage of stupid people doing unadvisable things, this most successful of the online video repositories contains how-to vids on everything from how to fold a fitted sheet (one of my all time favorites) to the finer points of pointed pen. Just go to the site and search for your specific query. The video featured here is "Script in the Copperplate Style: The Symmetry of Curves" from "arcange16" who is a frequent, and excellent, contributor.

And like a good browse through any library, one discovery can lead to another, so pay attention to suggested videos.
