Annual FOTA Picnic

Ex Libris:
Features from the FOTA Library

Marbling Books

As best I can tell, FOTA has several references on marbling in the library. Two copies of Marbling, by Diane and Paul Maurer (both checked out at the time I wrote this), "How to Marbleize Paper," and "Paper Pleasures", both of which I can really recommend.

"How to Marbleize Paper," by Gabriele Grunebaum is a thirty-page workbook with black and white illustrations and a good bit of text, but the color illustrations of marbled papers on inside and outside covers are enough to tempt anyone to give marbling a try.

From the FOTA Library: How to Marbleize Paper

A simple, effective, marbling "how-to" can be found in pages 82-92 of "Paper Pleasures", by Faith Shannon. FotA is fortunate to have two (maybe three) copies of this beautiful book, so anyone who wants to master marbling over the summer should come to the June meeting and visit the library to check out these goodies.

FOTA Needs YOU:
Opportunities to Volunteer

As of our last board meeting it was made clear that, due to some of our best and brightest moving away, FOTA is left with vacancies in some of its key positions. We'd love to fill these posts with people as bright and beloved as those who left them.

So, help us out and join the elite cadre of FOTACorps.

Positions available:

  • Director of Exhibitions and Community Outreach
  • Master of Cupcakes
  • Sultan of Scrapbook
  • Minister of Greeting Cards
  • Picnic Organisers
  • Assistants for Founders' Day Activities

Contact Emily if you need more info on what exactly these positions are, or want to put yourself forward.

Le Dejeuner Sur L'Herbe:
The 2005 FOTA Picnic!

There will be NO MEETING in JULY...because we're heading to the FOTA Picnic instead! This year, Carol Gray will be hosting the event at Avondale Estates on Saturday, July 30th. The event is ALWAYS a great time and this year we'll be keeping up that tradition. Get your food, your Fanta and your most festive face on to have a blast down Avondale way. Details and directions will be forthcoming.

JUNE
June Program: Calligraphy in the Garden

Our Next Program:
Calligraphy in the Garden
Monday, June 13th 7:00pm

At our next meeting we're taking calligraphy off the drawing board and into the great outdoors. Come see novel approaches to combining the beauty of letter forms with nature's own creativity.

As an added bonus (and for decorative reasons), members are encouraged to BYOP — Bring Your Own Plant — and take part in a garden exchange after the program.

Refreshments will be on offer and we encourage you to peruse our terrific library during the social time or take a look at members' work at the Member Table. As always, we are hosted at the beautiful Trinity United Methodist Church.

SPECIAL NOTE:
THERE WILL BE NO REGULAR MEETING IN JULY!

July's meeting will be the Annual FOTA Picnic

Marie's own work is pure precession, and has added a fluency that is decorative and charming.
